DEEP PURPLE: Mk III The Final Concerts

(signed by Glenn)

Well, not exactly my cup of tea, this one. Don't know what I must think of it. The feeling overall is not good at all: too much "shoe-shine-music". Thank God, Allah, Buddha, Jaweh, Jupiter and others that there are a few good things on it, and it is not as bad as Foxbat.

Burn Nice intro by Ritchie, though I miss some feeling during the whole song, and even during the whole concert.

Stormbringer Don't like that song, it gets too funky(hope my review won't become a second Foxbat: that was a real "funk-disaster"!). It's too long (yet one of the shortest songs on the CD), and I must say one of the things that attracted me in Purple was the length of the songs and the improvisations. I even don't like Ritchie's solo, with a bum note at the end?

Gypsy This is NOT Deep Purple! But Ritchie saves the song with a nice, but too short solo, and makes it worth listening too.

Lady Double Dealer What is happening at the beginning, is that a jump? The song is OK.

Mistreated What kind of intro is that? Rainbow? More! More! Though, what is he doing with the actual intro? Ritchie's nice melodic solo, which might go on for ever and ever for me, is spoilt by Glenn, who is too loud. The highlight of the CD, I even like Coverdale at the end, and (oh no!) the funky feeling of it. Sure would like to hear Gillan having a go at this one, which sadly will never happen, or...?

Lazy GREAT!! This IS Deep Purple!!!! (the Deep Purple I am fan of)

Smoke On The Water the more I hear Coverdale ,the more I hate 'im; he is simply not singing, but shouting! Here you can hear clearly the resemblance between the voices of Greg Smith (Rainbow) and Glenn Hughes. "Help From My Friends" fits nicely i, to my surprise. Yes indeed David: "mercy mercy".

You Fool No One Lordy's solo is too short.

Space Truckin' I can understand why Ritchie left Deep Purple. They still dare call themselves "Deep Purple"?! This WAS Blackmore's and Lord's song, but now it has become Glenn's. Don't know why Jon did not leave too. I sure will be ashamed if someone caught me listening to the stuff after Child in Time on this CD. And no, I am not a headbanger, not at all.

Going Down too funky, and , at last! "...a song for ya!" Thought I would never hear him yelling it, this time.

Highway Star What the hell are they rambling at the qtart of the song?! They destroy the intro of this one! Again I don't like David's voice, even Ritchie's solo seems rubbish to me (me saying this about Master Blackmore?!). "Nice lines" by David at the end, fits to 16 year olds.

Mistreated Coverdale was always quarrelling about who wrote this song, here they say it themselves (on another LP they did that too). Nice quiet intro, though Lazy doesn't fit in. I always have liked the stuff that Blackers knits between and during songs.

You Fool No One Great Lord introduction. (I'm into intro's, I think). and I love Ritchie's solo, but again too short. Silly they edited Ian's solo, though I am not a great lover of drum solos on CD.
